Te Kaha ō Te Mauri (Methamphetamine Intensive Treatment)

A safe and welcoming space for those affected by moderate to severe methamphetamine use

Te Kaha ō Te Mauri

Methamphetamine Intensive Treatment (Harm Reduction) Service

Te Kaha ō Te Mauri is a culturally grounded intensive treatment service supporting adults experiencing moderate to severe challenges related to methamphetamine use.

We provide a warm, respectful and non-judgemental environment where tangata whaiora can feel safe, supported and connected. Our team walks alongside each person with compassion, practical support and hope, recognising that recovery is about more than reducing substance use; it is about restoring wellbeing, rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with whānau and strengthening mauri.

We understand that methamphetamine use can be linked to trauma, mental distress, physical health concerns, housing instability, financial hardship and social disconnection. For this reason, our approach addresses both substance use and the wider factors that influence recovery and long-term wellbeing.

What is Te Kaha ō Te Mauri?

Te Kaha ō Te Mauri provides intensive treatment and includes specialist assessment, intensive treatment, and social advocacy support for people aged 18 years and over who are experiencing moderate to severe methamphetamine-related challenges.

Our approach is strengths-based, person-centered and culturally grounded. Support is tailored to each person's goals, circumstances and readiness for change.

The Meaning of Te Kaha ō Te Mauri

Te Kaha speaks to strength, resilience, courage and inner power.

Te Mauri refers to the life force or vital essence that exists within every person.

Together, Te Kaha ō Te Mauri reflects the strengthening of mauri, supporting people to restore wellbeing, dignity, hope and resilience throughout their recovery journey.

Our Approach

Our service is guided by Te Whare Tapa Whā, recognising the importance of physical, mental, spiritual and whānau wellbeing.

We draw on trauma-informed care, counselling, peer support, psychoeducation, harm reduction principles and culturally grounded healing practices. A key part of our approach is creating a welcoming space where people feel safe to connect, build trust and engage at their own pace.

Sometimes recovery begins with a conversation, a cup of tea, and a place where someone feels comfortable enough to take the first step.
