Wellington Pride Parade

March 30, 2026

Ngā Kete sent staff member Hayley Pasco to Wellington for the annual Pride Parade! The annual Wellington Pride Parade is a major celebration of the Rainbow and Takatāpui communities, typically held in March in Wellington city centre, featuring a parade, street celebrations, performances, and community events

“The event was incredible! There were so many people attending and participating in the parade. It started at the end of Courtenay Place and all the way up to the rainbow crossing on Cuba street.

From the moment it started it was loud and proud with speeches and waiata then to kick off the actual parade was a group of motorcycles and mopeds.

It was an incredibly freeing experience being surrounded by so many different people of all different races, ages, genders, sexualities, celebrating diversity, love and resilience. I would akin it to the feeling you get when you’re leaving a concert and you feel like everyone who attended is now your friend. It is unifying.

I feel absolutely humbled and privileged that I was sent up to attend. It was a show of good faith on how committed NKMP is to equality and diversity.”
