Some of our staff members attended the hikoi for Toitū te Tiriti yesterday evening. They said it was a peaceful kaupapa to be a part of - the mauri was of excitement and kotahitanga.
“We walked from the Council Building (Te Hīnaki) down Esk Street to Wachner Place where we all shared waiata, haka and karakia. This hīkoi was led out by Te Pāti Māori member Rivah Hura and was well supported by Te Wharekura o Arowhenua and the Māori Wardens. In particular I loved seeing the generational presence of kaumātua, pākeke, rangatahi, tamariki. Every man and his mokopuna were there it was tino ataahua. Matua Terry King estimated over 200 whānau were there.”
