He waka eke noa! On Sunday waka ama rangatahi paddlers from our local secondary schools (James Hargest College, Verdon College, Southland Girls High School, Aurora College and Te Wharekura o Arowhenua) hit Splash Palace to practice tipping drills.
It’s about water safety and knowing what to do if the waka capsizes. This practice was part of Te Waka Taiohika o Murihiku, an initiative that supports physical activity, hauora and strengthens cultural connection to te ao Māori and te taiao (the natural environment) for rangatahi led out by Kōrari Māori Public Health team at NKMP.
Ngā mihi nui to Tra Mac, Brett, James, Wi-Richie and Ross for your awhi. Stay tuned for our next sprint race later this month.
